Method
Add the Base
- In a medium bowl, add mayonnaise and ketchup. Stir until smooth and evenly combined.
Mix in the Relish
- Add sweet pickle relish and stir well. This gives the sauce texture and that familiar burger flavor.
Balance the Flavor
- Pour in vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir until everything is fully mixed.
Taste and Adjust
- I always taste it at this stage. If I want it sweeter, I add a tiny pinch of sugar. If I want more tang, I add a few drops of vinegar.
Chill for Best Flavor
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. The flavors settle and taste even after chilling.

4. For thinner sauce, add a teaspoon of water.
