Method
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2–3 minutes.
Step 2: Add Wet Ingredients
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully combined.
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
Step 4: Divide the Dough
- 💠 Divide the dough evenly into three portions.
- ✔ Leave one portion plain (vanilla)
- ✔ Mix melted chocolate into the second portion
- ✔ Add red food coloring to the third portion and mix well
Step 5: Layer the Dough
- Press each dough portion into a flat rectangle. Stack them carefully (chocolate, vanilla, pink), then gently press together.
Step 6: Chill
- Wrap the layered dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This makes slicing much easier.
Step 7: Slice & Bake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled dough into even cookies and place on a lined baking sheet.
Step 8: Add Walnuts
- Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top or gently press them into each cookie.
Step 9: Bake
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool before serving.
