Ingredients

  • 2 cups butter softened
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups walnuts chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for rolling

Method

Step 1: Mix the Butter and Sugar
  1. Add softened butter and granulated sugar to a large bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Add Vanilla and Salt
  1. Mix in vanilla extract and salt until combined.
Step 3: Add Flour
  1. Add the flour a little at a time. Mix until the dough looks thick and firm.
Step 4: Fold in Walnuts
  1. Stir in the chopped walnuts. The dough will feel a little stiff — that’s perfect for shaping the balls.
Step 5: Shape the Cookies
  1. Scoop small portions and roll them into round balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 6: Bake
  1. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–14 minutes. The tops should remain pale while the bottom turns lightly golden.
Step 7: Roll in Powdered Sugar
  1. While warm, roll each ball in powdered sugar. Let them cool and repeat the coating once more for the classic snowy finish.

Notes

1. Roll them in powdered sugar twice for the best coating.
2. Do not overbake; they should stay pale.
3. Chop nuts finely for better texture.
4. Let them cool fully before storing.
