Method
Cook the Sausage
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned. Break it into small crumbles. Drain excess grease and let it cool slightly.
Preheat and Prepare the Dish
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking dish. Tilt the dish so butter coats the bottom evenly.
Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, and baking powder.
Add Wet Ingredients
- Pour in buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix. The dough will be thick.
Fold in Sausage and Cheese
- Add cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix gently until evenly distributed.
Spread the Dough
- Place the dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Spread it evenly to the edges.
Score Before Baking
- Use a knife to cut the unbaked dough into 9 squares. This helps create even sausage cheese biscuits.
Bake
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown on top. The edges will be crispy from the butter.
Cool Slightly and Serve
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing fully.
